The tool is specifically designed to automate time-consuming tasks, enabling teams to save time, improve accuracy, and focus on innovation. One month into its release, the results speak for themselves.

AI Patent Summarizer

The AI Patent Summarizer leverages advanced language models specifically trained to analyze patent documents. It focuses on extracting key information from the patent descriptions, delivering concise yet detailed summaries that provide users with a clear understanding of the technical aspects.

This tool directly addresses the common challenges in patent reviews, offering a more efficient approach. Key advantages include:

 • Automated process: Leveraging AI to automate patent summaries.
 • Continuous Operation: Ensuring continuous and uninterrupted patent review processes.
 • Time-efficient: Significantly cuts down the time needed for reviews, speeding up workflows.
 • Improved accuracy: Provides greater precision in identifying relevant patents.
 • Better prioritization: Efficiently prioritizing patents for review, focusing on the most critical ones first.

Time and Cost Savings with Improved Productivity

For many users, the manual process of reviewing patents can be incredibly demanding. On average, patent experts scan about 25 new patents each week, resulting in roughly 100 reviews per month. The AI Patent Summarizer helps users save up to 15 minutes per patent review, which translates to 25 hours per month, or three full working days saved. This time-saving allows teams to focus more on high-impact tasks, increasing their overall productivity and performance.

In terms of cost, the impact is equally substantial. With patent experts typically charging 100 to 130 EUR per hour, the AI Patent Summarizer can lead to savings of between 2,500 and 3,250 EUR per user each month. These efficiency gains not only benefit individual teams but also contribute to the overall ROI for organizations.

High Accuracy and Full Automation

Patent review requires accuracy and attention to detail, and the AI Patent Summarizer delivers over 90% accuracy in capturing key technical information. By automating the process entirely, this tool works 24/7, ensuring that patent reviews are completed without any delays or human errors.

The feedback from current users is overwhelmingly positive, with over 90% satisfaction rates reported. The combination of speed and accuracy means that teams can rely on the AI Patent Summarizer to handle the repetitive parts of the review process, freeing them to focus on more strategic, value-driven tasks.

The Role of AI in R&D: Augmenting, Not Replacing Innovation

There is a common misconception that AI should be used for invention or coming up with entirely new ideas. However, AI’s true strength in R&D lies in augmenting human capabilities, not replacing them. The AI Patent Summarizer excels at analyzing large volumes of patent data, identifying relevant patents, and pulling out insights that are most applicable to a business’s needs.

For example, instead of manually reviewing 1,000 patents to find the relevant ones, the AI tool can quickly narrow that list down to 50, giving engineers a more manageable set of documents to work with. By saving time on preliminary research, R&D teams can focus on what they do best—innovating and developing new products. This also helps engineers spend more time on creative problem-solving rather than administrative tasks.

Why Generic AI Models Aren’t Enough for Patent Review

Generic AI models, such as ChatGPT, while useful in many scenarios, often fall short in specialized tasks like patent reviews. Patent data requires a more targeted approach, relying on databases that include full-text documents and native language translations, not just abstracts.

Moreover, an effective AI model needs to be trained specifically for the business using it. A generic model won’t understand your company’s products, technologies, or how patents are categorized in your industry. In contrast, the AI Patent Summarizer is designed to learn from your company’s unique patent data, ensuring more relevant and actionable insights.

By feeding the AI model with your own patent applications and categorizing them based on your technologies, the tool becomes highly specialized, making it much more effective than off-the-shelf AI models. Once trained, the AI can accurately map out patent data, helping your team identify key patents from competitors or visualize trends in specific areas of technology.

Maximizing ROI with AI-Driven Patent Management

The AI Patent Summarizer not only saves time and improves accuracy, but it also significantly enhances ROI. The time saved each month translates into a 15% increase in efficiency for patent experts, giving them the opportunity to either do more or improve the quality of their work. With this increase in productivity, businesses can reallocate resources, optimize workflows, and create more value across departments.

In today’s competitive environment, businesses need every edge they can get, and the AI Patent Summarizer provides just that. By automating mundane tasks and ensuring high levels of accuracy, this tool empowers teams to achieve more, without sacrificing quality. The time and cost savings are clear, but the broader impact on innovation and growth is what truly sets it apart.

In summary, the AI Patent Summarizer offers unparalleled efficiency, accuracy, and cost savings for businesses involved in patent reviews. With its ability to streamline workflows and reduce manual tasks, it enables teams to focus on higher-value tasks and innovation. If your business hasn’t fully explored the potential of the AI Patent Summarizer, now is the perfect time to experience its transformative impact.

Every week more than 100.000 new patent documents are published. Monitoring patent documents is crucial for staying ahead of competitors and maintaining a competitive edge in your industry. However, reviewing and categorizing new patents can be a time-consuming and laborious task especially with the number of patent documents that are published every week.

Both IamIP and Sartorius, a long-standing client of ours, developed a common understanding of all these challenges, and for this reason decided to collaborate to develop a feature that will enhance the user experience on the platform and that will make the patent monitoring easier and faster.

Now, we are excited to announce the release of our newest feature, the AI Patent Categorizer.

The AI Patent Categorizer

The AI Patent Categorizer is a new AI-based feature that allows users to navigate among millions of patents more easily. It sifts through the database and automatically identifies the most relevant documents. It also provides the user with an AI-generated confidence score of every result. A mathematical model categorizes the patent documents into “relevant” and “irrelevant” and ranks the search results with a binary score of (1 and 0) score relevance.

The AI Patent Categorizer also provides the user with an AI generated confidence score of every result. The feature considers various components of patent documents, including the title, abstract, claims, description, and applicant information. By considering these fields, it aims to comprehensively analyze patent documents and provide valuable insights and categorization. What’s important is that the AI can be further fine-tuned to capture potentially problematic areas with greater accuracy based on weekly monitoring feedback, which made the feature stronger and more effective in its work. The fine-tuning is tailored to each customer based on provided data.

The Process

The workflow for the IamIP AI Categorizer involves several stages to ensure effective categorization and analysis of patents. Here are the steps that are part of the process:

 • Agree on Monitoring(s)
 • Gather training data set
 • Train and set up AI model
 • Capturing of new patents
 • Categorizing of new patents by AI model
 • Intellectual review process
 • Re-train AI model

Results

After conducting extensive tests on the AI Patent Categorizer, Sartorius and IamIP have reached the following conclusions:

 • The AI Patent Categorizer has demonstrated the potential for up to 80% time savings in the patent categorization process.
 • The success rate of the AI Patent Categorizer has shown an impressive improvement of over 90% in identifying the relevant documents, compared to traditional methods.
 • The automation provided by the AI Patent Categorizer allows for round-the-clock operation, providing continuous support and efficiency.

After implementing the AI Patent Categorizer, Sartorius had notable improvements in the weekly patent monitoring process. Its impact was significant, providing several advantages over traditional methods.

]]>

The former Invention Disclosure module is getting a major update, and we are now very excited to introduce the new IamIP Idea Database product. Many things have been improved to enhance your workflow and make it more streamlined and efficient.

What is the “IamIP Idea Database”?

The process of filing a patent always starts with an idea. However, further crucial steps are required to complete the patent filing process. Communication between inventors, Review Coordinators, Experts and Decision Makers during these steps can be challenging and take a considerable amount of time.

The IamIP Idea Database is a tool for centralizing all these process steps from the idea until filing a decision (e.g. filing a patent).

You can invite your collaborators, add ideas and filter through them, you can create your own Invention and Assessment forms, experts can review the filed information of the inventors and finally you can solidify your ideas for filing new patents.

What’s new?

The IamIP Idea Database has several new features that will simplify usage and increase effectiveness. What are those?

 • As the first improvement, we have introduced counters on the icons so that the users will know if they have open tasks or reviews. Counters will help guide the users and remind them of pending tasks or assessments.

 • Now, there’s a new color distinction between the collaborators depending on the status of their assessment. Your collaborator’s icon will be red if they have not made an assessment on a document yet, yellow if they have completed the assessment but it has not been approved yet and green if they have made their assessment and it has been approved.
 • As this tool is a knowledge database, every time someone submits their invention idea, they can also enrich it with some attachments or notes, whether these attachments are technical documents or some brochures. Now, there have been added counters on these icons as well, so the users will notice and utilize them while making their decisions.
 • The IamIP Idea Database offers a new text formatting feature. You may now format your input text in a variety of ways, such as bold or italic, and you can also include links, which is useful for directing someone to IamIP’s patents platform.
 • Now you can extract and download your invention documents with more information on them than was previously possible. Along with the primary inventor, co-inventors may also be added. Additionally, a significant footnote has been added that will help with confidentiality and transparency as it now prints the identity of the person who extracted the file on the page.
 • There are new flexible filtering options. Until now, the users were able to search using only one filter at a time. With the new updated version, you can be more flexible and use multiple filters according to your needs and your research.
 • Finally, there is a dedicated administration panel for the end users which is now updated with new and improved options connected to certain user types.

What are the advantages?

With the new IamIP Idea Database, you will be getting important gains such as:

 • Improved collaboration with a better distinction of pending assessments.
 • The Counter system enhances workflow efficiency by keeping track of unfinished tasks and providing attached documents to facilitate better navigation of the platform.
 • Saving time with more filtering options and combinations for more efficient searches.
 • The new footnote feature which was added will protect your privacy and prevent information leaks.

Creating new ideas, discussing your inventions with your experts and bringing your ideas to life, now, becomes easier and more efficient!

Global online patent platform IamIP is releasing a new range of invention disclosure features. The new features, released today, include the ability to submit new technical ideas, share the ideas with selected colleagues, and evaluate them directly in the IamIP platform. The new features even allow you to create a company specific workflow, including how to upload, the type of question it answered, and the type of IP protection for the designated idea.

The new invention disclosure feature is built directly into IamIP’s platform and contains the ability to search through your inventions, upload new inventions and instantly decide through a workflow if you want to file a patent or keep it a trade secret. The workflow allows you to create a tailor-made process where multiple stakeholders can be involved in the evaluation chain that fits your companies IP strategy. This means that you can now keep ideas a trade secret until you are ready to file a patent application without feeling that you may miss out anything important by not sanctioning internal collaboration.

The new feature, along with new templates and workflow options, creates a streamlined and easy to use platform designed to allow R&D engineers and scientists to easily be able to upload any technical idea, instantly start an evaluation process, and create a document that they can hand over to a patent attorney. All the ideas are stored within IAMIPs database and can always be found based on your search criteria’s.

“There’s nothing more rewarding than finally getting to launch a feature our customers have been requesting for a long time “, says Viktor Rudolf (Chief Product Officer).

This brand-new invention disclosure has been tested with our customers and therefore we can say that the feature mimics the real environment in a technology company.

IamIP started out as a platform to support technology companies to keep track of their competitors patents and to make sure that they always have the freedom to operate (FTO). The patent platform today is used by more than 5000 users from 20 countries, creating automated alerts to follow their competitor, technology evolution, and more. Only last week over 100.000 patent documents were published and 1 million legal changes occurred in our system.

The new feature is available today to IamIP users and there has never been a more critical time for sharing patent information internally in companies and creating new ideas to patent, particularly within the ongoing pandemic. As technology companies work to keep their staff and management team informed, thousands of engineers look to kick-start their own business intelligence with their technology teams to stay connected despite being apart and remotely located.

“While this product update will add even more value to IAMIP growing repertoire of innovation capabilities, we hope they’ll also go a long way in keeping R&D engineers and scientists connected, creative and together”, says Viktor Rudolf (Chief Product Officer).

]]>
IAMIP, a leading patent management platform, today introduced a new feature that helps technology companies which meet challenges when monitoring third party patent data.

Electrical engineers who design and develope new electrical systems, solve problems and test equipments by measuring. Similar is true for patent information: you need to know what you are analysing and why certain data were captured. The very famous quote by Werner von Siemens, German electrical engineer, inventor and industrialist – “Messen ist Wissen” is most probably also applicable to patent information.

In 2019 around 3.2 million patent applications were received by patent offices around the globe, which means that on average there were over 100.000 patent documents published every week on top of the almost 14 million patents currently in force according to WIPO. As a technology company, and even as a patent professional, it is overwhelming and very difficult to keep track of what is relevant for you without having an efficient monitoring in place. Therefore, many companies usually involve multiple people in this process that requires multiple hours per person and week.

A medium sized technology can have over 40 people working together. The workload for an R&D engineer or a scientist to go through and analyse so many patents per week will easily mount to many hours of not doing R&D activities. For a company with multiple R&D teams this can exceed to 1000 of hours per year.

Without understanding your KPI’s, you are most probably also facing the risk of your R&D teams stop going through the documents and analysing them when week after week, they receive an email notification on a Tuesday morning that they need to analyse hundreds of new captured patent documents of which only very few are relevant to the R&D team’s field of work. The top management may also start to wonder why you invest 1000 of hours yearly on patent information?

Therefore, the core question is if this work can be monitored and what type of information can be extracted to indicate:

Which monitorings capture the largest amount of hits?

Which monitoring has a low activity?

Which is the most critical area?

Where do we have a low/the lowest hit rate?

Get an overview of all monitoring activities

Identify trends in an early phase

Report activities upwards

Develop resource planning

This brand-new feature was developed in strong cooperation with some of our clients that invest 1000+ hours to secure their Freedom To Operate (FTO).

“There’s nothing more rewarding than finally getting to launch a feature our community has been requesting for a long time. Today’s the big day – business insights are here”, says Viktor Rudolf, CPO of IamIP.

By offering this new feature our clients can save hundreds of hours making sure to optimize their return of investment in their process to obtain Freedom To Operate (FTO).

Our goal is to create the best patent management platform in the world that is developed together with the industry.

IAMIP has unveiled a new way to capture patents and analyse “Non-Latin” patent documents.

Your technology-driven teams should use third party patent application to avoid “reinventing the wheel” and to analyse what your closest competitors are currently developing. Additionally keeping track of such information is important in order to secure that no one is infringing on your rights.

But if your competitors are from countries that are using Non-Latin languages when filing new patents, you need to capture those information as well. Therefore, it is important to make sure that you create searches in the original but as well machine translated patents that enables you to not miss any important information.

The Non-Latin language feature has now been integrated to IamIP, allowing users to search Japanese, Chinese, Korean and Russian Abstract, Full-Text as well as Assignees and Inventors, in the original language. In addition, users can now also read any native language text that is contained in the patent. For all users, machine translation options are already available which allow the text to be translated instantly into many other languages.

“Our customers can now set-up more efficient patent monitorings in original language or English language. From now on they can as well execute more accurate prior art searches or FTO analysis in order to identify actionable insights in their daily business”, says Viktor Rudolf, Chief Product Officer at IAMIP.

By offering original indexed native languages, our customers can now mitigate the risk of losing important information about their competitors as well as ensure they do not miss out an important patent application in their patent monitoring processes.
